What's so special about our Sunflower?

Most sunflower varieties only produce one flower per plant. Our Sunflower produces many flowers, and for a long time too. It’s like you’ve got a living bouquet in your raised bed ;-)

Sowing and growing

Sunflower seeds germinate easily. But birds love them. Almost as much as snails love the seedlings.

So, protect your seeds and seedlings by putting a transparent plastic container over them. And once they’ve started to grow, check for slugs and snails regularly.

Other than that, the plants grow quickly and easily.

One sunflower plant fits into one square plot. Don't be tempted to put more in: the roots will go looking for more nutrients and moisture and invade your other square plots.

Step-by-step sowing and growing instructions are in the Planty Gardening app.

Extra info: You can start sunflower seeds as early as late March in a cold greenhouse or in a covered container. Avoid putting them in the windowsill: they'll grow too fast there.

How do you use it?

A Sunflower’s main purpose is to make you feel happy :-).
It also makes your garden happy by attracting pollinators and by being a great neighbor for your other plants, like beans. At the end of a Sunflower's life, its old flowers and seeds are for the birds.
